EU issues final approval of 6th round of anti-Russian sanctions

BRUSSELS, Jun 3 (PRIME) -- The E.U. has finally approved the sixth round of anti-Russian sanctions to punish the country for its special operation in Ukraine, the E.U. Council said in a statement on Friday.

The legal document will be published later in the E.U. Journal, after which the sanctions will come into force and the list of people hit by the individual E.U. sanctions will be disclosed.

The new sanctions encompass a ban of imports of oil from Russia in 6 months and of oil products in 8 months. But an exemption was made for oil pumping through pipelines to countries of the E.U. that are largely dependent on oil from Russia and have no alternative ways to procure crude.

The sanctions also mean disconnection from the SWIFT interbank exchange system of Russia’s Sberbank, Russian Agricultural Bank, and Credit Bank of Moscow and Belarusian Bank for Development and Reconstruction.
